Jan Marini Luminate Retinol Face Lotion

Jan Marini Luminate Face Lotion is formulated with Alpha-Arbutin and Retinol which effectively inhibit melanin production and enhance cellular turnover, revealing renewed, brighter-looking skin. Additionally, Licorice Root Extract helps to visibly brighten the complexion, while potent Green Tea Extract delivers strong antioxidant protection against free radicals, supporting long-term anti-aging benefits. This hydroquinone-free formula helps diminish the look of discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles.

CAUTION: This product contains Retinol (Vitamin A). A broad spectrum sunscreen is required while using this product. Use in pregnancy and while breastfeeding is not recommended.

The Luminate Face Lotion is available in two formulations. The difference between this product and the Jan Marini Luminate Face Lotion MD (Extra Strength) is the Retinol strength. The Luminate Face Lotion MD (Extra Strength) contains 0.75% Retinol vs. 0.30% Retinol in this product.

Ingredient Highlights:

• Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate – Calms skin and minimizes irritation

• Retinol –  Speeds cell turnover
• Epigallocatechin Gallate (concentrated green tea extract) – Antioxidant, prevents collagen breakdown and reduces UV damage to the skin
• Bisabolol – Minimizes irritation

Apply product sparingly over entire face every other evening for the first 1-2 weeks, then slowly increase usage, as tolerated, to 1-2 times daily. If irritation occurs, decrease the frequency of application to allow the skin greater time to acclimate.

Retinol is our most powerful skin rejuvenator. It exfoliates, tightens pores, thickens the dermis (deeper layer of the skin), reduces wrinkles, and increases the ability of the skin to build and maintain higher levels of hyaluronic acid.

Retinol requires acclimation initially and can cause irritation, dryness, itchiness , peeling and overall sensitivity if not applied correctly in accordance to your skin’s sensitivity.

If you are new to retinol, you should start with a low concentration and when the skin gets acclimated then you can work your way to something of higher concentration.

Retinol Acclimation:

1. Cleanse the skin and apply Retinol to DRY skin - Use Retinol at night only
2. Start with 1/2 pea size of Retinol and apply on outer face first and then work inward, avoid the corners of the eyes, nose and mouth, wait a few minutes and then apply moisturizer.
3. Apply product twice a week and slowly increase to every night over a month or two as your skin get acclimated and gradually increasing the amount of product to ½ pea size to 1 pump.
4. ALWAYS use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher during the day when using retinol . Retinol increases sun sensitivity and irritation can occur.
5. When skin gets acclimated, AM usage can be effective, but only using it correctly can give you rejuvenating effects.
6. The neck reacts differently to retinol compared to the face. Side effects are itchy and red bumps when scratched, peeling, dryness, and redness. Retinol can rejuvenate the neck as well when tolerated. Be careful when starting retinol on the face to not pull it onto the neck without it being a planned event. Proceed with gentle acclimation over months and careful not to scratch, if it starts to itch. Scratching will create red bumps that take about 2 weeks to resolve.

Why use this version and not the stronger Luminate MD Lotion?
Retinol is an ingredient that works best if used every day, so using a mild retinol is preferable to most people as you get the great benefits associated with retinol without any issues.

How often should I use this product?
Apply it in the morning and evening. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily while using this product. Try Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Protection SPF 33, the best-selling Jan Marini sunscreen. As with any retinol product you might need to acclimate to its powerful ingredients. To acclimate your skin start using it once a day, every other day or 3 times a week. Keep this schedule for one or two weeks and increase use slowly.
